Context Free-roaming dogs are ubiquitous worldwide and pose a threat to wildlife. An understanding of the roaming behaviour is useful for developing effective management strategies.Aims We aimed assess activity ranges patterns free-roaming in rural Cambodian village. adjacent wildlife sanctuary protects populations threatened species that may be negatively impacted by dogs.Methods used rudimentary hand-made GPS collars track village quantify their movements. Activity were calculated male female dogs, mean distances travelled at night during day determined. Additionally, forays outside range characterised.Key results estimated 178±190ha found typically longer night. Females had significantly smaller ranges, as well covering shorter per day. Foray was variable, with some entering regularly others not all.Conclusions dog overlapped native mammals study site, posing risk predation, resource exclusion, harassment competition species.Implications The data suggest although generally spend majority time within village, there significant Actions required mitigate threats wildlife, particular such Eld’s Deer.
